Beautiful People: Wasted For Sobriety's SakeBeautiful People is driven by brave warriors humble enough to tell their stories. It gives hope to the hopeless and heals our blindness, exposing misconceptions about the down and out – beautiful people living on the fringe.

Peter moved here from Florida last fall after a divorce with his wife. He is an intelligent and witty man who has had chronic struggles with alcoholism. Peter lost his tent and sleeping bag to the rain and snow and now is now hustling (don’t know what that means) at the crack house. He asked me last week to read the bible with him as his eyes are getting bad and asked me to turn to Corinthians 13…love is gentle love is kind. He has a brother in Colorado that he has not talked to in 20 years and a couple of cousins. No one in the world who cares about him.

Last Friday Peter decided to get clean. He couldn’t do it on his own, so he reached out to a special program that provides support. Only problem is that the program is specifically geared towards individuals who have been picked up by the police for intoxication. That night Peter set out to get his blood alcohol above 2.0 so that he could call the cops and get taken into detox. Yesterday we began working with him on next steps.
